Build underway at White Hill Barn

Works have commenced on a highly sustainable new dwelling in the Meon Valley.

Formed around 3 interconnecting barns built into the sloping site, this innovative project proposes a highly sustainable structure. The pre-fabricated timber frame features separate external and internal sections with a blown cellulose infill which offers superb levels of insulative efficiency.

The dwelling also uses a sustainable palette of materials. No concrete is used with the barns supported on a series of metal piles screwed into the ground. A retaining wall of timber sleepers slotted between driven steel uprights will be dressed with ash reclaimed from the site. The roof will be finished in zinc and covered with solar panels.

Each barn is positioned to maximise passive solar gain in the winter months and minimise heat build up in the summer. Windows are punched through to give views across the countryside whilst minimising overlooking or light pollution within the South Downs National Park.

We will post construction photos during the build  so come back to view progress.
